2017 Open pairs
Saltburn Open Pairs Competition
The annual open pairs competition at Saltburn was held on Saturday 29th April (first two rounds) with the final stages (quarter finals, semi finals and final) the following day Sunday 30th April.
The competition was fully subscribed with 32 teams taking part this year once again.
Winners of the previous two years, Duncan Robinson and John Selley, were drawn against Graham Russell and Jim Atkinson whom they beat in last year's final, and once again Duncan and John won the game although were subsequently beaten in the second round.
Saltburn managed to get two teams into the quarter final stages and as they played against each other we had one team in the semi final.
That was as far as they got with this year's final being contested by Paul Bostock from Skelton partnered by Mick Jewell from Borough Park pitting their skills against a visiting pair from Nafferton in the Driffield league. In a hard fought battle Philip Margerrison and Robin Bell from Nafferton prevailed against local boys Paul and Mick to take the honours, we hope they will come back again next year to defend their title.
The whole weekend was a great success thanks to the ladies of Saltburn (and the odd guy) helping out with pie and peas, bacon and sausage butties and an amazing display of cakes and sandwiches that were used to keep everyone going over both Saturday and Sunday.
Once again the weather was kind to us with dry and sunny weather on both days, a cool breeze was just the ticket to keep the bowlers at the optimum operating temperature!
Thanks to everyone who took part, thanks to all the visitors and members who supplied tombola prizes as well as those who bought tickets and last but not least the generous sponsorship received from Tingdene Park Homes.
We look forward to a great bowling season and wish you all success in your own competitions.
