Saltburn Bowls Club - 2021 dates

All of the information on this website is subject to Goverment guidelines during the Coronavirus pandemic, the following is the current planning, this may be changed without notice at any time.

After opening the green for restricted use on Tuesday, 20th April, the green is now open as normal for members and there is no need to book rinks in advance, the usual rules apply whereby league games and club matches will get priority over casual bowling. This of course can be reviewed at any time if goverment advice changes

From 18th May the following is in place

There is no need to book but we must still keep a record of those people using the club so there will be a sign-in book in the club house for members, visitors and boules users. Please state your name and the times at which you arrive and leave the club.

The shed will no longer be out of bounds.  All equipment is available to use but please continue to sanitise before and after use.

Social distancing rules must be strictly adhered to.  As we are outdoors wearing of masks is not compulsory.

All equipment including jacks, mats and pushers can be used and these must be sanitised before and after each rollup.  Do not presume that the person before you has sanitised the equipment thoroughly.  Sanitising materials are available in the shed.

About the club

Saltburn Bowls club is part of the larger Saltburn cricket, tennis and bowls club and shares facilities with the cricket club bar and clubhouse. The bowls club itself was founded in 1906 and offers a fabulous green with 6 rinks in a quiet location set in an enclosed corner of the cricket field with pedestrian access from either the main road or via the cricket field where there is ample parking within the Saltburn Leisure centre car park.

In addition to the green which is open normally from April until September, weather permitting, there is also a gravelled petanque (French boules) area which is in operation throughout the year. The bowls club has its own pavillion located next to the green which has toilet and changing facilities as well as a modern kitchen area.

Over the years since being founded we have served generations of bowlers some of whom we are proud to say have gone on to play at County and National level.

We offer the opportunity for new bowlers to come along and "have a go" at bowling outdoors with tuition from our coaching staff most Tuesdays during the season using bowls loaned by ourselves, you need only provide suitable flat soled footwear. More information can be obtained either from the Saltburn District U3A website (see useful links page for details) or by contacting Bryan Robinson on 01642 511259.

If you have not played before then why not give it a go, bowls is fun, sociable and good gentle exercise. Should you decide to join there will be an annual fee which allows you to play as often as you wish during the time the greens are open. Any competition will take precedence over casual bowling so please check that there is not a match scheduled when you want to play.

During the bowls outdoor season our men and ladies compete in the local leagues - see fixtures for more details. During the winter many of our members pop into the nearby leisure centre where there are 4 indoor rinks used for competition and practice, the indoor facility is not part of the bowls club but is owned and operated by Everyone Active and separate fees apply. We do not offer any coaching for indoor bowling.

When we are not bowling during the winter we hold regular social events at the club to keep in touch with members and have an evening of light entertainment.

The club is accessed either from Marske Road or Saltburn Leisure Centre car park - see picture below.

Pedestrian access is next to the Saltburn Cricket Field bus stop on Marske Road (opposite Budget Auto Centre) TS12 1QG. Arriva buses X3 and X4 both stop here.

Car parking is available in the Saltburn Leisure Centre on Marske Mill Lane TS12 1HJ, then on foot through the cricket field to the bowls club.
